Our Story

Our mission is simple: to bring the healing power of music to nursing homes and care facilities, using music therapy to stimulate memory, uplift spirits, and create meaningful connections.

NeuroNotes was founded by two high school students who recognized the profound impact music can have on the mind and memory. As young musicians, we were inspired to combine our passion for music with our desire to make a difference in the lives of people living with neurodegenerative diseases. We organize groups of talented high school musicians to perform for residents, hoping to offer comfort, joy, and support through every note.

The scientific connection between music and the brain is powerful. Research has shown that music activates multiple areas of the brain, particularly those involved with memory, emotion, and cognition. For individuals with neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s or dementia, music can be a vital tool in triggering memories and providing emotional stability. Familiar tunes stimulate the hippocampus, the area of the brain associated with memory, which helps recall long-forgotten moments. Music also engages the amygdala, which processes emotions, creating a deep emotional connection that can help individuals reconnect with their past and with their loved ones.

Through our performances, we aim to provide not only cognitive stimulation but also emotional support. The act of listening to live music has been shown to reduce anxiety, increase relaxation, and improve overall well-being. Our performances are tailored to offer therapy through familiar and soothing songs, promoting both mental clarity and emotional healing. We believe that music, whether it’s a simple melody or a more complex composition, has the power to bring comfort and enhance quality of life, even for those who may struggle with memory loss.

To further support our mission, we’ve curated a Spotify playlist featuring songs that provide cognitive stimulation, emotional support, and therapy. These carefully chosen tracks are designed to engage the brain in meaningful ways, offering moments of reflection and joy for both individuals and caregivers alike. Through NeuroNotes, we hope to spread the word about the healing power of music and encourage others to experience the benefits it brings, one note at a time. Whether it's a live performance or a playlist shared with a loved one, we’re committed to using music as a bridge to better health, connection, and well-being for everyone.
